To get a new gas connection in India for cooking gas is one of the concerns for many people in India. Cooking gas is called LPG which is short for Liquefied Petroleum Gas. To purchase cylinders of LPG a connection registration is required and not having their own gas connection leaves many people with no alternative to buy gas cylinders in the black market at almost double the actual cost of what they should normally be paying. Its not only the extra money involved but the added difficulty of not having a reliable source of an essential need for the require for their daily cooking.

How to get a new gas connection:

1. First, you should locate the nearest gas agency office that services your area. Every area has an agency designated as the supplier by the gas company. To find the appropriate one, simply check the local phone directory. 2. A application is required to be filled in for a new gas connection. This application form will be available at the dealers in your area. There are also some documents required to prove your address and identity.

Documents required for new gas connection:

For proof of identity Any of the documents listed below are normally acceptable Passport, Driving License, PAN Card, Any Photo identification issued by State Government or Aadhaar Number allotment letter (Aadhaar number is supposed to be a 12-digit unique number which the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) which will eventually be issued for all residents.) For proof of address Voters Identification Card, Ration Card, Electricity Bill that is not more than three months old, Telephone bill that is not more than three months old, Employers Certificate, Current Rent Receipt and letter from landlord certifying you as a tenant, House Registration Papers or House tax current bill. Self declaration attested by Gazetted officer may also be acceptable however having proper documentation is helpful and will save time.

How to get a new gas connection online

While you can select the company of your choice, I am using HP Gas in this example. To apply online for a gas connection: Log on to HP login page by clicking HERE 1. First step is to create a log in ID and Password for yourself. Enter your email ID and select a password to go with this account. Don't use your actual email password here, just enter a different randomly selected password so you can access this account later. Write the password down somewhere so you remember it. Once you enter your email ID and selected password, submit the form, an email will be sent to your email ID asking you to activate your new account. 2. Check your email and click on the activation link sent to you to activate your account. 3. Once you activate your account you now log into apply for a new cooking gas connection. 4. Log in with your email ID and password you created to start new connection application. See sample shown below: 5. Start by selecting your 'State' and the required information as shown on the form. (Sample above) 6. After you click next you will be taken to the application form that you can fill out. The form is quite simple to fill. Remember to select the location nearest to your residence. The form requires you to provide information by selecting from menu on the form as to the number of cylinders your require, size of cylinders, documents to be submitted, name of the consumer, address and other details in order to get your name listed for the supply of Gas. 7. Once registration is done and documents have been submitted you will be able to either now book gas online or you can directly call or reach at your distributor for refilling of HP Gas Cylinders. There is a deposit required for each cylinder and for a domestic pressure regulator. A ration card in NOT mandatory to apply for a new gas connection in India. Documents that will be required to be submitted are normally one proof of your address and a photo proof of your identity. There is no requirement to purchase a stove or any other item from local distributors to get a gas connection, many dealers do try and sell their stoves to people trying to get a new connection. This is not a compulsory requirement.
